RIP Virgil Abloh. I didn’t know much about you other than what social media spoke of you. I thought that some of your Nike collaborations were brilliant, and I loved your yellow belt that looked like a tape measure. My sentiment lies with your children and wife. I respect your privacy. You didn’t owe me or any other MF any type of explanation. I don’t subscribe to the notion that a celebrity should divulge his/her private life to his/her fanbase. Even public figures have a right to privacy. I get pissed when I see or hear MF talk about “they should’ve let us know what they were going through.” Seriously? Why? What the fuck were you going to do to help that man’s situation? Nothing. Nothing other than go on Twitter and speak incessantly on that man’s life, on shit that you personally know nothing about. I have a serious problem with all the YouTube vloggers who have chosen to exploit Young Dolph’s (and plenty others) death for monetization. It’s perverse at best. Some of you cocksuckers are showing footage of the shooting. Some of you have used stills from the shooting as your thumbnails. Some are blogging on any and every empty theory that pops up from day to day. You’re implicating MF without a shred of evidence, all for a few bucks. Some of these implications have already had deadly consequences. You’re playing an uber dangerous game under the cloak of relative anonymity. I may not know much, but I know how much of a bitch Karma is. That hoe will do her thing on her own time. I don’t enjoy others’ suffering, but I wouldn’t be averse to not giving a fuck when your time comes. It’s coming. Just sit tight.

I am openly advocating for the death of the Democratic Party (and no, I’m not a plant for the Republican Party). Please let the vitriol fly wherever it may. I’m built for it. Just hear me out. Reason two: autocracy? That may be valid, but I doubt it. Cheesy may have come close to ending democracy in this country, but even his own would have aborted the mission before all out autocracy, if for no other reason than the “shoe on the other foot” scenario. Y’all hated ole Cheesy because he was front and center with his bigotry. PLOT TWIST: I’d much rather be called a nigger to my face than behind my back. He never hid his bigotry or xenophobia. The Voting Rights Act died a shitty, pathetic death. All the while, R’s across the country have changed over 360 voting laws to disproportionately affect POC. What have Dems done to counteract this bullshit? Absolutely nothing, other than bitch about it and complain. They chose to fight with both hands and feet bound. TRANSLATION: Dems didn’t do shit but bump their gums. So much for John Lewis’ legacy. There has been ABSOLUTELY NO TYPE OF POLICE REFORM. I’m going to repeat that. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO TYPE OF POLICE REFORM. Shit, he didn’t even come through on student loan forgiveness. And please don’t use Congress as a reason to excuse him from keeping his word. Pundits are saying that Sleepy Joe needs a “Sister Souljah Moment” to help get his approval rating back on track. A SSM is when someone uses a piece of controversy to help galvanize their cause or momentum. The origin is from the post-Rodney King ass whooping when SS commented that Black folk should return the “favor” and commit acts of violence against white folk. Bill Clinton seized the opportunity to denounce the notion and help his election cause. It worked, in tandem with other things. Word is that Biden may consider denouncing Critical Race Theory as his SSM. That would be tantamount to pulling his Depends down and shitting all on his Black constituents, for several reasons. First, CRT isn’t even taught in public schools; that’s college material. Second, it helps to further whitewash history that is already revisionist. Y’all still gon be down afterward? Probably. Most of y’all are mindless, sucker ass niggas. I said it. Grow a pair of onions and reject these lame ass politicians who don’t give a fuck about us. Find the candidates that do. Support the real.

I really wish that Black folk had a billionaire or three (or 20) to come out and openly question other Black “elites’” desire to “stunt” at every possible moment in life. It only sounds like hate coming from a poor MF like myself, but shit is waaaaaaaaay out of control. It’s teaching our babies that life is only about material possessions and street fame. MF are dying over ice and clout. Shit is so crazy that a MF will purchase $300K diamond earrings to floss but can’t pay a $5K debt. MF will buy $200K in jewelry but won’t get their momma up out the projects. Niggas will own 20+ vehicles yet own zero pieces of property. I’m not the fun police. I gotta keep it a buck. My mind is all over the place for this blog. First, it’s 11.22, a famous date in American history (IYKYK). Rittenhouse walked (as expected). A pilgrim in upstate NY was given NO jail time for raping multiple women. The pilgrims representing the crackers who assassinated Ahmaud Arbery have done everything except show up for court in the local grand wizard’s outfit. Memphis took one of its own out of the game. We’ve got a lot to unwrap, so I’ll put my news anchor hat on and give my best Chuck Scarborough impersonation. Here's the weekly rundown. Light it. Let’s levitate.
 
LONG LIVE TAMIR RICE
 
On this day in 2014, 12-year-old Tamir Rice, an African American boy, was shot and killed in Cleveland, Ohio, by officers responding to a call of a male with a gun. Reports say that it was indicated that the gun was probably fake, but allegedly, this information was never given to the police who arrived on the scene. Initial reports also stated that Tamir was “possibly a juvenile,” leaving plenty of ambiguity regarding Tamir’s age. Timothy Loehmann was the PIG who pulled the trigger, having done so within seconds of arriving upon the scene with his partner Frank Garmback at the wheel. Loehmann was fired, but only because he lied on his application for employment. The city of Cleveland decided against indicting either officer, and the Justice Department ruled that the officers did not commit a criminal offense. It’s the wanton disregard for Black life that will forever make me want to go Larry Davis over this situation. I’ve looked at several pictures of Tamir; he looks like a boy in EVERY pic. The cops pulled up and began to fire within seconds. This was and still is a tragedy, make no mistake about it. But what hurts my heart to its core is reading responses (blogs, social media, comments) from “Americans” who looked at the situation with an “oh well” attitude. "He should of this," "he should of that." He was a boy, for heaven’s sake. A boy. Police (allegedly) are trained to deescalate a situation. Loehmann had it in his heart to shoot as soon as he pulled up, and he did. The boy was 12. It just goes to show how much Black lives are devalued. If a police killed a 12-year-old white boy that day we’d still be hearing about it to this very day. It’s just a microcosm of the country we live in. Black lives do not matter. They never have. Rest easy, kid. I’m a rep your name until the Lord calls me to join you.

I tried to told y’all. I tried. I tried my best to paint the “not guilty” picture for y’all. I was correct. Kyle Rittenhouse, murderer of two, George Jefferson walked out of criminal court in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Scott free. It always helps to have the judge on your side, and Rittenhouse did. I chronicled the judge’s exploits in last week’s MNR. The prosecution was not allowed to refer to the victims as victims. The gun charge was thrown out of court ahead of the decision. Rittenhouse was allowed to pull the final jurors’ names out of a raffle, as if he were the BINGO guy at your great auntie’s senior night at the rec center. In all honesty, Rittenhouse deserved to be found not guilty as per the standards set forth by the charges and the way the judge ensured certain evidence was presented to the jury. There was no way he was going to be convicted of first-degree murder. The evidence just didn’t show it. And, as much as many hate to admit it, he WAS defending himself. It hurts (for some) to hear, but it is what it is. They were all on his punk ass. He had heat with him. He used it to get them up off his bitch ass. Personally, I felt he’d at least have to pay some time for the AR-15 he carried and killed with. As soon as that charge was tossed, I knew that he was good to go. I know, I know. I know exactly why you’re mad. You’re mad because a white BOY was able to (literally) get away with murder. Welp, I can’t help you on that one. If you open a book, you’ll learn that it’s the American way. Or, perhaps, you’re just mad because you knew what was coming – and it came. I don’t quite know what to tell you, other than stay your Black ass out of the state of Wisconsin unless you’re going to get up with Coo Coo Cal in his projects. It ‘tis what it ‘tis.
 
WTF?
 
Christopher Belter, a well-to-do pilgrim, will not serve ANY prison time after entering a 2019 plea deal to attempted first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree rape, and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse. The charges stem from FOUR SEPARATE incidents in 2017 and 2018 in Lewiston, NY. He and all of the victims were under 18 at the time. Belter had been on interim probation the past two years, which he violated. And guess what? Judge Matthew J. Murphy STILL declined to imprison Belter, instead giving him a sentence of eight years of probation and ruled that he must register as a sex offender. The judge stated that prison time would be inappropriate. WHAT IN THE ENTIRE FUCK? The judge claims he prayed over the situation, and that it “seemed to him” that incarceration wasn’t appropriate. I don’t even need to pull a Monday Special on this one. This is the definition of egregious; it’s as flagrant as flagrant can be. Black folk and other POC get football numbers for far less, yet this privileged pilgrim gets to avoid prison time altogether, and he took all types of pussy. If it seems eerily familiar, it’s probably because you’re thinking about the Brock Turner case. He was the demon who was only given six months in prison for heinously raping a woman in broad daylight behind a dumpster in Santa Clara County, CA. In that case, the fact that he was a Stanford student on the swim team led Judge Aaron Persky to have sympathy for that savage piece of shit. White privilege is still undefeated in 2021. Lord help us all. My heart goes out to all the victims. I pray you ladies can rebound from this bullshit. Justice (in my mind) involves a 300-pound cellmate in Attica with a penchant for violating other men’s assholes, and Belter is his celly. Bend over, grab your ankles, and start singing “Ignition.” The remix, bitch. Die slow, MF.
 
JUSTICE FOR AHMAUD
 
Closing arguments have ended in the Ahmaud Arbery murder trial, with the prosecution set to deliver its rebuttal tomorrow morning. In sharp contrast to the Rittenhouse trial, everything about this case leads me to believe that all three defendants will be convicted of malicious felony murder. All the testimony leads me in that direction. I’m not worried about the fact that 11 of the 12 jurors are white. I’m confident that they will yield guilty verdicts. That should make some of you who are on edge breathe a bit easier, especially if you know me personally. I’m almost always incredulous regarding Black justice, dating back to my youth after I witnessed the Anita Hill/Clarence the Coon Thomas Congressional hearings and the Rodney King trial. But, from a pure legal standpoint and with consideration to all the evidence presented, those three hateful pilgrims will never see freedom again. There are over 100 Black pastors down there in support of the family. Let’s pray that their prayers are fruitful. Even as a devout believer, I’m not big on pastors or their grandstanding, so my words are a bit tongue in cheek. Irrespective of my cynicism, I pray that the pastors are truly there to do the Lord’s work. I pray that justice is served to those three devils.
 
HOME IS WHERE THE HATE IS
 
South Memphis entrepreneur and rapper Young Dolph was assassinated in his own hood five days ago on 11.17.2021. Dolph was revered by many in the rap game. In addition, Dolph showed an acumen for business, as CEO/Artist of the successful independent label PRE (Paper Route Empire). He also reportedly owned scores of properties in the Memphis area. Like all the great ones of all walks of Black life, Dolph took care of plenty of people. He put his cousin Key Glock on, paving the way for him to be a successful rapper in his own right. He supported diverse Black businesses in Memphis. I don’t claim to be a Dolph fanatic, but I respect his work. “100 Shots” was crazy. I loved the “Large Amounts” video. The old school baby blue Benz was very, very fresh. I don’t want to speak on any rumors or speculation; none of it will bring Dolph back to his babies or his wife or his family. I’ll leave it at rest in paradise, young CEO. You are already missed.

MNR: Justice for Just-Us

Nine-year-old Ezra Blount became the tenth person to succumb to injuries sustained at the first night of the 11.5-11.6 Astroworld music festival, thrown (and headlined) by Travis Scott, organized by Live Nation. Blount attended the concert with his father Treston. He was sitting on Treston’s shoulders when the crowd surge pushed dad to the ground, causing him to pass out. The little boy fell and was trampled by the crowd. He went into cardiac arrest and perished yesterday. RIP to little Ezra, first and foremost. I have a few questions and a bit of vitriol to spew, but that would be disrespectful at a somber time. I’ll save my ire for Travis.

I don’t want to be that guy, but I don’t feel that you are sincere in your grief. I have no way of knowing this. I don’t know you. But I’ve seen past events where you implored kids to push their way toward the stage, among other things. You have a dedicated fan base that has seen you live multiple times. I wonder how many of your faithful were instrumental in the deadly surge. I think you’re more worried about your brand than you are about the totality of the tragedy. I’ll leave it at that. But I feel like you are as culpable as your naysayers insist you are. I’m pretty sure the Nike and McDonalds deals are soon to be taken away. I don’t wish bad on you, but I don’t feel bad for you either.

I’m certain that I’m not the only rational American who has peeked in on the Kyle Rittenhouse trial and noticed that the judge has been more than accommodating to the defendant. It all began with demanding that those harmed by his bullets were not referred to as “victims.” The judge (on a different issue) excoriated the prosecution in a manner that a parent would scold a child, and then seemingly let the defense get away with a similar offense. At multiple times throughout the trial, his phone rang with the ringtone “God Bless the USA,” a song used by old Cheesy himself. Today we learned that he dropped the illegal weapon possession charge. Well damn! Is the fix in or nah, because it certainly seems to be? And who TF is this judge, anyway? I’m glad you asked.

Kenosha County, Wisconsin Judge Bruce Schroeder, 75, received his undergrad and law degree in-state from Marquette University. He was appointed to the court in 1983 and is the longest serving active judge in the state’s trial courts. He is one year in on a six-year term, for which he ran unopposed in 2020. He’s flamboyant and unapologetic. His views are a bit “out there.” But guess what? Schroeder didn’t wait until the trial began to get all cute on us. He’s been on his bullshit for a long time. Every tactic we’ve seen from him is directly from his unorthodox playbook, which even he admits is somewhat uncommon. He is who he is. Closing arguments are almost complete. I don’t think many of us will be surprised if the jury returns a “not guilty” verdict. It seems to be headed in that direction. I feel it will be because Schroeder has done everything but throw the alley (oop) to the defense. If it is, I wonder if those folk in Kenosha will take it to the streets like they did last year. You know, like the night when Rittenhouse killed two people? Only time will tell, but soon come.

FYI: I hope y’all know that the three men Rittenhouse shot are all white men. I’m on Twitter errday. A lot of folk are unaware of this fact. You Americans are quite disturbing.

I got ‘em (insert three robot arm emoji). I GOT THE W, WORD TO MY MAN BREAK, THE UNBREAKABLE ARMY, AND UNBREAKABLE KICKS! Do y’all have any idea how nasty it’s gonna be when they officially drop on 12.11? These are holy grail kix. A few niggas gon get their ass WHOOPED at their local mall or at the Foot Locker on 149th & Grand Concourse (IYKYK) for these sneakers. The bots are about to go ape shit. Some weirdo reseller is about to have 75 pairs in his cart and delivered to his mommy’s crib. The whole damn tri-state is gonna have them on in at least one of their IG pix. That’s a personal decision, and you have every right to decline the jabs. If you’re 30, in excellent health with no preexisting conditions, and work out on a regular basis, it’s highly likely that COVID will be little more than a two-week inconvenience. If you are self-employed or work for a company that doesn’t require being vaccinated, more power to you. This isn’t a witch hunt. I can’t knock your selfish ass hustle until you knock mine. My fury is directed towards all the FB group, corner store, jailhouse, pulpit, didn’t even pass basic high school biology immunologists out there who persist in disseminating fallacy-laden mistruths and flat-out lies in their defense of choosing not to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Honestly, it’s not that you thumb your nose at the CDC or experienced healthcare professionals. It’s the fact that you’re so ignorant that you believe your backwoods conspiracy theories and half-truths make you more intelligent than those of us who have done the academic research and have chosen to side with science and medicine. Damn near all medicines come with warnings against possible side effects, and/but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will personally suffer from said effects. This ain’t a judgement thing, I smoke like a chimney, dabbled with cocaine back when, and treated the medicine cabinet like a trick-or-treat bag for years. But that makes me an expert in explaining how much of an idiot you are in your rigid anti-vaccine stance. You haven’t a clue what’s in your drugs, from the tree to molly to ecstasy to the “hard stuff.” There are even reports (which have yet to be verified) that MF are putting fentanyl in weed. We know for a fact that fentanyl is in the “hard stuff.” You roll the dice every time you get high, but a vaccination crosses the line? Cool. You’re an idiot. Carry on. TRANSLATION: I promise I won’t miss you if and when you’re gone.
 
My greatest argument in defense of being vaccinated lies within the bullshit that the “woke AF” Black community pushes. You know, the narrative about the vaccine being created to eliminate us-skinned folk. We’ll crush that fantasy immediately. The COVID-19 vaccine, much like every other vaccine in American history before the politicization of medicine, crosses every socioeconomic demographic. Rich folk, poor folk, educated folk, uneducated folk, all races of folk, and members of most religions have been vaccinated against COVID, including plenty of your family members. Are they dumb for receiving the jabs, or are you just that much of a delusional stalwart? Are you calling your grandmother dumb? Is your mother dumb? At some point, it’s imperative that we stop with the fantasy shit. A lot of y’all sound like the dumb ass MF from my younger days I’d hear flaunt their bad credit like it was something to be proud of, like it was some rite of passage. You’ve made the decision to be ass backward wrong. Cool. Just do the rest of your people a favor and keep the dumb shit to yourselves. Don’t poison them with your hogwash. The only plausible defense of choosing to abstain from the jabs is the argument that the COVID vaccine is new and there isn’t comprehensive data on its long-term effects, if any. This is true…sort of. We have only had the vaccine for a short period of time. I’m going to ask you to role play for a quick minute. Put yourself in the position of an individual suffering from HIV/AIDS in the ‘80s or the ‘90s. Imagine that disease ravaging your body: the aches, the lesions, the vomiting, the rapid weight loss, the vision loss, etc. Would you have thumbed your nose at experimental treatment if it meant ANY sort of progress as opposed to just letting time run its unforgiving course? You don’t have to answer because common sense already answered for you. You’d take the treatment, with or without FDA approval. MF were dropping like flies with little to no dignity during the AIDS era. Yeah, the COVID vaccine hasn’t been around for a long period of time, but I’m pretty sure this was the case when the polio vaccine was introduced (common fucking sense). Science wasn’t nearly as advanced as it is today. As a result, it took a couple of decades to develop, but Americans listened to prudent advice, took the vaccine (especially kids), and polio hasn’t been on anyone’s mind since the last time they read an FDR biography. I know that most of you are just acerbic by nature; you’ve planted your flag in the earth and feel that reversing course at this point will make you seem weak. You’re right. It will – if COVID is ravaging your body and there ain’t shit the doctors can do for you because you’re too far gone. Hopefully your momma and granny have already been vaccinated and your exposure will only result in them experiencing non-threatening symptoms. Hopefully they’ll be well enough to plan your funeral.

Ain’t enough dickriding fanatics or money on earth to absolve you of guilt. The reality is that you do have enough money to [in time] make this disappear from a legal standpoint. But your mind and your soul? Completely different story. You gotta wear this for the rest of your life. Your filtered “apology” lacked sincerity if you ask me. But you didn’t ask me, and my opinion doesn’t mean shit. The blame isn’t completely yours. Other organizers (Live Nation), the venue, and security must also shoulder the blame. But it was YOUR event; YOUR name was on it. It’s YOUR name that will forever be tied to it. Karma is a bitch. You, in all likelihood, gon have to kiss that heifer dead in the mouth from a compensatory standpoint. You earned it.
 
UPDATE: Travis has announced that he will refund every ticket, take care of all the funeral and burial costs for the eight victims, and will partner with BetterHelp to provide free mental health services to all those affected by the tragedy. That’s a start…

I almost hate to mention my season amidst the valley (the bullshit I’m going through). I fully understand that most of us-skinned folk are usually amidst some type of season in the valley. C’est la vie. I’m no longer the sorry piece shit I was, the type to explode whenever a lent ear countered my “woe is me” narratives with the sagacity that it would be prudent to consider the fact that there are folk out there (in the world) who have it worse – much worse. Back when I was a horrible human being, that prudent insight would lead me into an expletive-laced tirade about how much I could care less about anyone else, that I was only concerned about ME. That made me the worst type of human, one incapable or unwilling to have empathy because of my own hubris. One day, the Lord got all in my business. I took over from there and provided the vitriol. “WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU TO BE SO DAMN IGNORANT? YOU SORRY PIECE OF SHIT. THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT HERE DYING BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING AND YOU’RE ACTING LIKE A BITCH OVER SOME EVERYDAY SHIT? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!!” Yeah, that was the type of time I was on. I thank the Lord for delivering me from that mentality and the lifestyle it accompanied. I’m the polar opposite of the man I was. I ain’t the pastor, but I’m damn sure not that piece of caca anymore. Of the 50 United States, only two are holding gubernatorial elections tomorrow on 11.2.2021. The irony? They are both states that I’ve lived in in my life, and I currently live in one. I’ll kill the suspense. Virginia and New Jersey are the lone states electing governors tomorrow. I’ll begin with VA because the action is quite a bit more intense in the commonwealth. Democrat Terry McAuliffe, governor of VA from 2014-2018, seeks to reclaim his seat tomorrow versus the Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin, who made his bones in the world of investment banking. The Virginia gubernatorial race is being seen by many (including me) as an early indicator of how the 2022 midterm elections may shape up. With the recent census, overt gerrymandering, and highly questionable election laws changes in many red states, Republicans stand an overwhelming chance to reclaim the House next November. Virginia, a state that has been blue for a few years now after years of being a southern red state, is as politically diverse a state as you will find in America. The race is close. Youngkin has walked McAuliffe down over the past couple weeks, with polls showing a dead heat and perhaps a Republican lean headed into tomorrow. Early voting has favored McAuliffe, but conservatives typically enjoy the “patriotic” act of waking their patriotic asses into the voting precinct and pushing buttons (I can’t be a hypocrite – I’m voting in-person tomorrow – but only cuz my dumb ass didn’t respond to the mail-in thingy they sent us months beforehand). We shall see how it all unfolds tomorrow. I have no clue who’s gonna win, but I’ll tell you this. If you read this blog fervently, you know I was at my alma mater for Homecoming a few weeks ago. I ALWAYS look for political signage/literature when I’m out and about election season. I saw about four Youngkin pieces for every McAuliffe piece, and I saw plenty. I mentioned it to Brandi. It stuck into my wig because since 2016, I’ve understood that heavy signage, knocking on doors, and candidates appearing in areas in-person leading up to the election can most certainly make a difference via the late push. Things may go Youngkin’s way tomorrow, but at the end of the day I think McAuliffe is gonna pull it off. He has the experience, and Northern VA, Tidewater, and RVA Black folk don’t play about putting their blind Dem votes in. Let’s see how it goes. As for the other race, err umm, the one in my state, we’ve got the incumbent, Democrat Phil Murphy versus the Republican candidate, Jack Ciattarelli. My personal opinion? Fuck ‘em both. I’m not voting for a damn R. PLOT TWIST: I’m also not voting for a damn Dem. I’m voting for whomever is running on the New Socialist ticket (I think that’s the name of the party). I gave up on Murphy when he played political games with all our unemployment extensions in late summer of 2020, the one that came from the federal level. I hadn’t returned to work yet. I, along with a lot of other New Jersey residents, was bleeding at that moment. I’m lying. I had some chicken in the stash. But I wanted what belonged to me (I ALWAYS need ALL minez). Murphy pulled a tasteless political stunt merely to give the finger to ole tRumpy. TRANSLATION: he didn’t accept the money for a few weeks. We didn’t get our money for like six weeks. I went on Twitter every damn day and read the mentions. A lot of folk suffered. You don’t play with people’s livelihoods, especially your constituents. I vowed I wouldn’t forget come election time 2021. Guess what, Phil? I didn’t forget, you punk MF. Having said all that, Murphy wins tomorrow. Easily.
 
BONUS ANALYSIS: Virginia, in addition to the governor’s race, is holding a vote on bringing a casino to Southside Richmond. It’s said to be Black [majority] owned and will bring hundreds of minority jobs to the region. They’ve got my guy Jamie Foxx as lead pusher man and Steve Harvey dem have been on his morning show imploring listeners in VA to vote YES tomorrow. I’ll leave my wooden nickel vote out of the discussion, but I will give you this. I lived in Highbridge, #BXNYC for the entire construction of the new Yankee Stadium, which was built on the old Mullaly Park. The team promised (whatever) percentage of construction jobs to qualified non-union area residents. They fell well short of the percentage they initially said it would be. I’ve read and heard about way too many pro sports stadiums that were built with the promise that there would only be minimal taxpayer money spent, that it would be mostly privately funded. It almost never turned out that way. Me stating the point is almost redundant, but I’ll state it anyway. Oftentimes, when big money projects are presented to a city’s taxpayers/voters, many of the promises made aren’t seen through. I just hope that those everyday folk out Southside get the lion’s share of the jobs and benefit from potential lower personal tax rates because of the revenue the casino will generate – if the vote passes. Again, we shall see.

The BBC (get y’all nasty ass minds out the gutter – British Broadcasting Corporation) named The Wire the greatest television series of the 21st Century [so far]. They had 206 experts from 43 different countries vote, and the tale of life in West Baltimore in the early 2000s took the crown. I have it as the best show ever, ahead of Martin and Seinfeld to round out my Top 3. True aficionados will agree that The Wire was as good as it was/is mostly in part to the fact that it was creator David Simon’s third attempt at greatness. Don’t get me wrong, the first two attempts were overwhelming successes. I tell every Law & Order fan that every show under the L&O umbrella combined couldn’t fuck with Homicide: Life on the Street on its worst day. Homicide (1993-1999) was Law & Order sans the pretty shit. It was gritty. It was emotional. Problems (cases) weren’t solved in 45-47 minutes; the FIRST case viewers were introduced to Season 1 wasn’t solved until the LAST season. The characters were much better developed and complex. Frank Pembleton (played by Andre Braugher), the cerebral and thorough star detective (lead character), suffered a stroke Season 4, and nearly died. He didn’t bounce back in an episode or two. His struggle lasted for seasons. Yeah. It was THAT deep. Shift Lieutenant Al Giardello (played by the great late Yaphet Kotto), affectionately known as “Gee” by his guys and ladies, was highly articulate and physically imposing yet humorous and good-natured. He was a monolith among mere police. His aura was amazing. Homicide also introduced the television world to the “murder board,” on which each detective on shift has a list of current and recent assigned cases listed under her/his name according to the last name and first initial of the victim. Closed cases are in black; open cases are in red. I could go on and on about how great Homicide is, but I’ll leave you with this. Homicide isn’t available on ANY streaming platform, including NBC/Peacock (it’s home network and its streaming service). To watch, you have to purchase the DVD set. It’s gonna run you about $400. Yeah. That way. After Simon’s network television impact and success with Homicide, he took his talents to HBO, where shit can get a lot realer. His second depiction of life in West Baltimore was a short series titled The Corner (2000). It aired in six parts and was grittier and more depressing than anything anyone had ever seen. It introduced us to the rawness that The Wire would later embody. But back to The Wire…when you walk through the garden…watch your back… The Wire was the first show I’d ever seen that didn’t give a fuck about a key character meeting an early and untimely death. MF died EVERY season. But in all seriousness, it was shot better than anything I’d ever seen. Can you even imagine what it was like filming in WB? No. No you cannot. There were characters that will forever be entrenched into your television psyche, from Omar (RIP MKW) to Michael to Chris Partlow to Snoop to Marlo to Avon to Wee-Bay to Bodie to McNaulty to Lester Freeman to damn near all of ‘em. The Wire introduced us to Michael B. Jordan WAY before he became an A-list celebrity. It was to us what 101-Recession Jeezy was to us. The first time you watched, you knew that whoever made it was plugged in. All the way in. I’ll stop there. If you have cable or HBO Max and for some God forsaken reason haven’t watched all five seasons, begin the first episode of Season 1 as soon as you finish this blog. Thank me next week. You’ll already be in it knee deep.
 
I don’t care if you’re Dem, R, Independent (like me) or whatever TF you are. If you’re registered to vote, take your ass out tomorrow and vote if you haven’t already. It’s bigger than national or state shit, a lot of times there are local bills on the ballot that will directly affect you, your family, and your community. I’m a firm believer that if you choose not to vote, your political beliefs are nonexistent. Shut your bitch ass the fuck up. I said it. Come see me if it’s a problem. I’ll be over your Auntie crib.
