So what's going to happen once weed is legalized recreationally across the majority of the United states? Is it going to be like alcohol? Are we going to have epically hilarious (probably not too expensive) commercials playing during our busiest stoner viewing times? Are we eventually going to get to a place where there are Marijuana Bars the way there are bars for everything else - did you know that there's places where you can go and PAY to breathe oxygen? That would be cool I guess. Is weed going to lose its place in counterculture if the Joe & Jane Regulars out there are toking up on a regular basis? Fact of the matter is, they probably do so already, but part of the allure of the chronic may be that the user seems to be a part of a (not so)secret society.
Then there's the money, money ,money, money... the CAKE, there's level to this business shit. If you're living on the east coast getting good loud chances are you're at best 2-3 people removed from the soil, or the amount of hands/ processes the flower had to go through starting from the flower and continuing on to the various connects, wholesalers, retailers and so on before it ended up in your respective consumption solution. Legalization wpuld change all if that, not an expert but I'm sure the selection gambit is going to swing anywhere from 7/11 to Whole Foods and that accounts for quality vs. quantity, availability of variety, even the history of your plant. Regulations... so is bud going to be like beer. I'm not talking about variety, but the ability to transport in large quantities? States that are legalizing marijuana are legalizing it so that you can only possess up to a certain amount when you travel and in your home but nobody says that you can only have 12 Beers at your house or a fifth of vodka so if marijuana will become legal like alcohol policed like alcohol shouldn't you be able to have as much as you want? Once the middle men are cut out, and the law is off our collective backs, what happens Then? This utopia everyone is dreaming Of? "Cali of the East" ? I don't know if New Jersey will ever be that progressive but it's out there, but I'm not talking about that, I'm asking: What happens to the plug?the connect?the cornerboys?? The college student who takes a $50 birthday present and finds a way to make sure they had the money to help pay for school? The mother who caught a felony young holding a stash for a guy she thought she was gaming but turned out he was gaming her when he through the whole case her way, the young producer who supports his dream by helping people sleep, fight cancer, battle epilepsy , and sometimes just have a little fun? Yeah, legal weed seems great, but what about the people its gonna hurt? Isn't worth it? To commercialize our "counterculture"? I believe Common (Common Sense at the time) had some thoughts on hip hop that had this same tone, but instead of music its the green culture, and instead of the West coast, it's the Legalization? I sure as shit hope hope not. Hope it's just the weed talkin. -Anonymous
